I've decided to treat the old girl (the bike not the wife) to a new battery.
I've experienced rough running and sometimes a failure to even turn over.
However, on doing a test with my trusty meter I've found 12.4 volts at the battery with engine of.f
BUT, only 12.1 with the engine running at about 2000 rpm.
I'm fearing the worst with a reg/rec failure. Please tell me it isn't so! _________________ So many roads, so little time. |

Certainly sounds like it.. I would expect about 14v
The VTR had exactly the same symptoms, as V Twins take a bit of cranking but I was able to ride it all day with the light off and just charge from time to time.
On the bright side, at least it isn't frying your battery.
Keep your eye open for a second hand ventilated one on ebay.... Other option is that you can get new German ones (not OEM) for circa £50.00. I think Biggus has done this as well. _________________ Boxhill Chippendales

I'm happy to report it was only the aged battery that let my beloved (bike not wife!) down.
Reading 12.8 idle and 13.8 active, lights on @ 5000rpm. Raptor workshop manual advises not less than 13.3 and not greater than 14.3, so how much more in the middle can you get than 13.8?
