I rode down to Dorset during the week Laughing and realised that I could have rode round the M25 for all the notice I took of the scenery. Guess it depends on the mood/riding style, bimble or balst.

Flipper, getting away from chav motors etc, Dorset has some brill roads to ride. I spend a fair amount of time down there. The run down can be very dull depending on what route you take. Sticking to the main trunk roads is a bit snorsville to say the least.
Detour of the main routes and discover some excellent biking roads crossing surrey/hants.
A lot depends on why your making the journey. I work that way sometimes and use the fast routes from a to b for time's sake. Tho when off for the w/e I tend to ride the less used A and B roads.

Taking in the scenery? Can be done depending on how you want to ride. A lot of it is just farm land an can get pretty mundane mile after mile. Theres some unspoilt villages along the way worth a stop. Tend to concertrate on the riding and stop off for a look around in the more interesting places.

Boils down to are you going for the ride or are you off sightseeing on the bike.

My step son lives in Blandford Forum, I'm often going down there to take him money etc. I tend to use the M25/M3 and then pick up the A30 just off the A303. Stockbridge is a nice place to stop for a break, then its the A30/A343 to Salisbury, then A354 to Blandford.

Places to visit....life where to start theres loads and excellent biking roads toboot. Good run is from Wareham down thru corfe and onto swanage. Think pirbright for 10 odd miles. Swanage to studland back to corfe, I dare you to find a straight bit more than 100 yds long.

Tacke the road from corfe across the army ranges thru creech to lulworth. From lulworth run along the a35 thru poxwell to weymouth.

Weymouth to Dorchester on the A summink or other. Got to stop for food at the Smugglers Rest at Owermoinge. Excellent grub and some stonking beers. Also worth a look at the bankes arms in Studland for the biggest seafood platter you've seen and a few pints of Wrecked.

Other side of Dorchester theres some manic roads all the way to Axminster in Devon. Non are what you call "busy" and Dorset has less speed cameras than surrey, or they did last year.

Poole is well worth a visit on Bikenight on the quay. 6 pubs within 100 yds of each other and live music on the quay. The roads are closed to all but bikes. Good atmosphere
