Crossing the road (walking) in Kingston, car comes hurtling round the bend and cuts in front of an ambulance. Find myself staring at the face of the driver before I start to run, and a split second later, the car has hit my leg and I'm up in the air, landing on my chest.

Sitting in A&E at the month, with hopefully nothing more than fractured ribs, but I was lucky that:
1 Was in my gear or I'd have broken a leg
2 Ran instead of 'rabbit in headlights' or the car would have hit me straight on and I'd have flown over it
3 It happened in front of an ambulance 5 minutes from Kingston Hospital

Oh the irony of people worrying about me on a bike... If there was ever an advert for bike gear for pedestrians, this would be it!!

Sad

Shocked I can't believe that happened to you, I hope you heal quickly!
That cage driver should be banned for that sort of driving...

Um...don't you have to let police know if you hit a pedestrian? Same goes if involved in RTC as a ped I think?

I could be wrong tho - but I hit someone a long time ago (but no injury) - I reported to police, they paid him a visit a few days later coz he hadn't reported it.

Given the credibility of your witnesses I suspect driving without due care/speeding probably due to cage driver... serves the fcuker right.

I've just called the cops (after nearly 5 hours in A&E...). Guy hasn't reported it yet, so I'm guessing they'll be paying him a visit after they visit me to get a full report tomorrow!

Thanks all. Police came round this morning. I suspect the guy might face a careless/reckless charge, as he undertook the ambulance at speed on a bend without clear view of the road ahead, but I'm sure GT/Mouse know more about that!

Now spending my recovery time trying to sort out claiming against his insurance (at the very least for a new helmet, as I was holding mine at the time!)...
