Well feck me, what a day.
Last day to ride the bike for a while as I have the opp tomorrow, so of course I'm going to go out and have it.
Well first I have to fill out an unnecessary fecking tax return, take that to tax office, told I will get a tax bill...arrrghh. I was on PAYE and my co paid the tax. All because IR decided I need to fill one out, even though I don't..twats.
Head towards guildford from woking, a few miles from guildford I overtake a van, wind the throttle open in 2rd go for 3rd, engine revs like a fecker, no transmission. I figured the chain had gone, yep I was right, arse. That was 12 noon!!
Wait over an hour for breakdown services. get the bike to Vines thinking I will get a chain fitted and be off on a hoon. No chain or sprockets in stock, got to get them from Germany Evil or Very Mad , next wednesday. Then it turns out they don't have a replacement bike for me, as sales have been good, also no car. Next they are to provide a hire car, yeah except the car hire company are fuckwits. They are based in guildford but it's going to take 2 hours to get a car, a VW golf. Choice of car is good.
BMW lend me a car so I can go into guildford while I'm waiting. Get back and wait and wait and some more. 4.45 BMW phone to see where the car is, apparently it's here. Yeah awsome the knobhead delivered it to Cars, didn't tell anyone so it was there without being checked or signed for by me.
We go out to find the VW Golf, yeah right. the wankers sent a fecking Nissan note..... Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad , what the fuck is a nissan note, I'll tell you what it is...it's a cheap lousey peice of shit as you would expect. Looks like a minin version of the Pope wagon. Do I look like I want to cruise around waving at adoring crouds....no I think not. So it's now 5pm, i have been here since 1.30, bored sensless and I now have the humiliation of driving a wheel barrow home in rush hour traffic. Rush?, there was no rush, feck me if it wasn't busy... an hour and half to get back to reigate Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad .
What a tedious waste of a day, I should have been enjoying a blast on the bike, eventualy get home at 6.30 Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

A chat on the phone with a freind made me happy again though Very Happy

They did actualy tell me that they had a few come back in with broken chains, one went at 3k, feck that, mine is at nearly 9k. They seem to think that BMW have gone with a new supplier, better quality product we hope. The chains fitted to the s1000rr are the dogs bollox, proper heavy duty chain, would hope so on a bike which has 150 bhp in rain mode, I think 190 ish in sport!

Did a fair bit of googleing after I got told my chain was fooked after 4K (with a Scottoiler!). Found lots of people on the GSers site who had had similar problems with the new F650/F800 ...and a few who had had replacements under warranty ...so I figured I had some 'precedent' and went to confront the dealer. To be fair to them, they didn't really argue. The tech guy said he would have to check with head office but the sales guy said to tell him if they didn't agree and he'd argue the case for me (I know he is just after the upgrade - but that is part of what you pay for). In the end they just replaced it (although they did try to replace just the chain and not the sprockets ...tut-tut-tut!! I must look like a girl Rolling Eyes )

The kid back at the place I got the service done reckoned it was just inevitable because of the design of the bike and the consequent length of the chain and, despite what some think of the particular shop I had taken it to, I reckon he was on to something...

On the other hand, p'raps you ride like a loon ....I've heard that'll do it too Laughing

Don't suppose you know the make of the chain do you? I'm sure DID are warranted for 16k miles, or similar, in any case, there is a bit of a precident there with failures by the sounds of it, and they should not fail like that, unless there's a combination of total lack of care and hard riding. Either way, I think you have quite a strong warranty claim

Yeah biggus, the chain make I'm not sure what was on mine but DID is whwt they have on the S1000rr. Lets see what they replace it with. Like you say it should last 16k. I have lubed it regular, I may ride hard sometimes but smooth. Very Happy
